Variety is the spice at street fair

Many new participants will enliven the sixth annual Wilton Chamber of Commerce Street Fair & Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, July 15.

Zippy Pets, animal rides, new food from Reiki, The Pastry Hideaway, The Painted Cookie and Grill Dog are among the new participants, said Debra Hanson, executive director of the chamber.

Returning guests include the Melt Mobile and College Creamery.

There are attractions and activities for the whole family centered around the gazebo, Pet Pantry, and Stop & Shop that day, from 10 to 4.

“For the sixth year in a row, the Wilton Center will be transformed into an exciting, action-packed, bargain-filled, entertaining and delicious destination for residents and regional visitors,” Hanson said.

The annual summer festival is supported by retailers, restaurants, businesses, artisans and local organizations who pull out all the stops to showcase Wilton Center as a vibrant retail, service and dining destination. The sponsors include Kimco Realty, Pet Pantry, Blue Buffalo, 95.9 FM The Fox and Star 99.9 FM.

There will be activities for dogs, Hanson said, and children’s activities will include face-painting, a bouncy house and obstacle course, magician, balloon characters from Mr. Bungles, crafts, and sand art plus treats galore. Several demonstrations and performances are lined up from Karate Universe, Back to Rock, The Voice, Suzuki Music Schools and others. Wilton Library will hold its annual summer book sale.

“The street fair is an awareness builder,” said Tom Sato, owner of Wilton Hardware, and president of the Chamber. He said it attracts people from  surrounding towns, including Ridgefield, New Canaan and Westport, and builds the town’s reputation as a destination place. “It’s not only for the businesses in Wilton Center, but the businesses along Route 7 that people see driving in,” Sato said.
