Tiny but exquisite

Tiny but exquisite

A public reception to officially open its new exhibition, White Linen and Lace: Baby Clothing, 1800-1950, will take place Friday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 6, at the Wilton Historical Society, 224 Danbury Road. The show includes tiny garments made with love and lavished with fine needlework: christening gowns and slips, night gowns, caps, bonnets, bibs, dresses and tiny shoes. They were made by women of the day with nearly invisible stitches, tiny tucking, tatting, crochet, soutache, cutwork, drawn work and embroidery. The delicate attire is shown with some of the furnishings of childhood — a cradle, blankets, highchair, silver mugs and utensils, baby bottles and rattles.
