Despite being landlocked, children in fourth through eighth grade can get a taste of Colonial maritime life with the Colonial Cookery and Customs program on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 11 to 12:30, at the Wilton Historical Society, 224 Danbury Road.

They will learn about sailor’s duff — a simple boiled pudding that presumably could be made with basic ingredients in even the most spartan ship’s galley. The term “duff” is a northern English pronunciation of the word “dough.”

The children will make a tasty updated version, more of a dense, rich cake flavored with molasses, and topped with a whipped cream sauce.

The cost for members is $10, $15 for non-members. Register: info@wiltonhistorical.org or 203-762-7257.
