Summer tour of Sheffield Island

Summer tour of Sheffield Island

From left,  Dorothy Sparling, Nea Martin, Marge Anderson, Joe Bodak, Jan Schneider, and Carolyn Strempel were among the 18 members of Stay at Home in Wilton who made a ferry trip to the Sheffield Island Lighthouse on July 29. They enjoyed hearing of landmarks, resident osprey and other wildlife during the 45-minute boat ride. Once on the island, the Wilton seniors toured the lighthouse, which was built in 1858 of stone hauled across the frozen Long Island Sound. A favorite subject of artists, the house has been recently painted and furnished with period furniture from the 1800’s.
