Star Spangled Banner workshop for kids to commemorate 9/11

To commemorate 9/11, the Wilton Historical Society is offering a Star Spangled Banner workshop for children ages 6 to 12 on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 11 to 12:30.

Participants will make “a simple but appealing banner project that incorporates patriotic colors and stars,” according to the event’s organizers. In the United States, Patriot Day, observed as the National Day of Service and Remembrance, occurs on Sept. 11 of each year in memory of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

As they make their banner, the children will be hearing about how 9/11 is observed with flags at half-staff, ceremonies of reading names, and service. In addition, the children will make their snack — star-shaped sugar cookies.

The fee for historical society members is $10 per child, maximum $25 per family; non-members $15 per child, maximum $35 per family. To register, send email to: info@wiltonhistorical.org or call 203-762-7257. The historical society’s museum complex is at 224 Danbury Road. Website: wiltonhistorical.org.
