Serving those in need Rine Reichgut and Stephanie Gordon of Wilton are among the volunteers from Congregation Beth El in Norwalk who embrace the rabbinic concept of tikkun olam — the Hebrew phrase for ‘healing the world’ — when they work at the soup kitchen of the Open Door Shelter, particularly during the Jewish High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. There, under the supervision of Chef K.T., they cook nutritious meals and serve some of Norwalk’s most vulnerable residents. The congregation purchases the ingredients and develops the menu with K.T.’s input. The Open Door Shelter serves three hot meals each day. Working in the kitchen are, from left,Doris Kaye, Harry Morgenthaler, Phil Goodwin, Bernice Friedenthal, Chef K.T., Rine Reichgut, and Stephanie Gordon.
