Ringing at Carnegie Hall

Ringing at Carnegie Hall

The English Handbell Choir from Wilton Congregational Church performed in a gala concert featuring choirs from Cambridge and Yale, as well as the Oslo Chamber Choir, the National Children’s Chorus, and several other ensembles at Carnegie Hall on June 29.
A joint project of Yale and Cambridge, the concert included the world premiere of Mass of the Divine Shepherd by Julian Revie, composer in residence at St. Thomas More Chapel at Yale University. The work for chorus, orchestra, children’s chorus and handbells was conducted by Maestro Stephen Layton from Cambridge.
A chorus of 150 adult singers was on stage with the orchestra while 150 children sang from boxes all around the hall, and 100 handbell ringers played from the highest balcony. This concert was the launch event for a major Yale-led initiative to provide sheet music and music education software online, all free to the world.
