Playshop presents Buyer & Cellar
What if you had your own private mall? Or, what if your favorite celebrity had their own mall and hired you to work in it?
That’s pretty much the premise of Buyer & Cellar, a special production by the Wilton Playshop for its Applause Series. Directed by Al Recchia and starring Chad Shipley, the play will run for one weekend only, March 9-11.
After reading an architectural book by Barbra Streisand, playwright Jonathan Tollins came up with the idea of what would happen if an out-of-work, aspiring actor was hired to man the private basement mall in Streisand’s house. The mall was detailed in Streisand’s book, complete with a dress shop, doll shop, and working yogurt machine.
The one-man show tells the story of Alex More, who after taking the gig working in the basement mall, develops an unlikely and hilarious friendship with Streisand. Buyer & Cellar is a comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.
Performances are scheduled Friday and Saturday, March 9-10, at 8, and Sunday, March 11, at 2. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and students. Tickets may be purchased at wiltonplayshop.org.
