Nursing agency honors Wilton volunteers for service

The volunteers of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County were honored recently at an awards ceremony and luncheon at the historic Roger Sherman Inn in New Canaan. Nine individuals were  recognized for their outstanding commitment, compassion and dedication to volunteer service.

Among them were several Wiltonians. David Bloomer received an award for his volunteer work on the agency’s board of directors; Dianne Murphy was honored for her volunteer work at the Turnover Shop of Wilton; Kesav Nair, MD, received an award for his volunteer work as a hospice adviser; and Phillip Sharlach was recognized for his work as a patient support volunteer.

In addition, Linda Roberts of Norwalk and Elaine Lloyd of New Canaan received awards for their work as  office support volunteers; Diane Wodey of New Canaan received an award for her volunteer work at the New Canaan Thrift Shop; and Fran Reynolds of Westport received an award for her volunteer work on the agency’s medical and professional advisory committee.

Dr. Sharon Sobel of Wilton received the agency’s highest honor — The Carol B. Bauer Community Spirit Award — for her outstanding volunteer service with the Turnover Shop.

“This award was established in honor of Carol Bauer of Wilton, whose spirit of support and devotion to volunteerism is unmatched in the community,” said agency President and CEO, Sharon Bradley.  “The Carol B. Bauer Award is presented each year to that special individual who embodies the ideals of volunteerism. An active volunteer at the Turnover Shop of Wilton for more than 20 years, Sharon Sobel has served as its president for 17 of those years. Sharon’s tireless commitment to helping others in all aspects of her life and work is a model for us all.”

“Sharon Sobel exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism,” said Ms. Bauer, who was present at the awards ceremony. “It is with deep gratitude and great pleasure that we recognize Dr. Sobel for her exceptional contribution to the mission of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.
