Nature Center wreath festival has a few slots left

Woodcock Nature Center’s annual wreath decorating festival is scheduled for Dec. 3-14 at the center on Deer Run Road.

Participants can get creative at one of the weeknight “Ladies’ Nights” or Saturday “Family Day” open houses using an array of natural dried flowers, grasses, nuts, fruits, berries and cones. All materials are provided to create a festive balsam holiday wreath. Proceeds benefit the Woodcock Nature Center’s Environmental Education Initiative.

Although 750 participants have signed up from Fairfield, Litchfield, and Westchester counties, there are limited spots still available for “Ladies’ Nights,” which run Tuesday through Friday, Dec. 3-13. There are two time slots each evening: 6:30-8:15 and 8:30-10:15

Wreath makers may come by themselves or with a group of friends for an evening of decorating, preceded or followed by socializing in front of the fire at the center’s pavilion, which is decked out for the holidays. They may bring food and drink and make this part of an annual tradition.

Pre-registration is required, and as a fund-raising event, fees are not refundable. Tickets are $50 and are available online at

Open house “Family Day” will be Saturday, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14, from noon to 4 (no pre-registration required). The fee is $40 with a $10 discount for any ladies who also signed up for “Ladies’ Night.” Fees include all materials, and hot cocoa will be served.
