Former Wilton resident Sarah Elyse Granetz will be one of nine artists whose work will be featured in the upcoming Pathway to Abstraction exhibition at the Agora Gallery, 530 West 25th Street in New York City.

Granetz, who now works and lives in New York City, works in acrylics and uses intense colors and dynamic lines that combine rough intensity with calligraphic delicacy to create images that bring the contours of the body into focus while turning those contours into iconic patterns.

“With color and canvas, I abstracted what I had become into prints, impressions of this person I did not know,” said Granetz, who often places paint directly onto her skin and then presses her skin against the canvas.

The Pathway to Abstraction exhibition will open with a free reception Thursday, June 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., and run through July 5.
