Festival returns to paint the town green

Live music, shopping and tasty food are just some of the attractions at the sixth annual Wilton Go Green Festival on Sunday, May 1, from 11 to 4.

The festival, centered around the Town Green gazebo and Wilton Library, will celebrate sustainable living and the Earth’s bounty with the help of pet-able wildlife “ambassadors,” electric car owners, leaders of children’s activities, and more than 80 informative, exhibits and activities related to sustainable building and energy, food, land and water, waste, recycling and transportation.

Guests can enjoy live performances by Silk'n Sounds, Wilton Steel, Joni Wallace & Friends, Acoustic Wilton and Open Road; and food provided by College Creamery, The Farmer’s Cow, Melt Mobile and Skinny Pines.

All day festival activities will include:

  • Face-painting by Animate My Face.

  • Bounce house provided by New England Bounce About.

  • Silent auction.

  • Gustave Whitehead replica plane.

  • A Roaming Homes tiny house.

  • Sneaker recycling, sponsored by Bay State Textiles.

  • 1898 Riker Electric Car.

Cyril the Sorcerer will perform in the Town Green Gazebo from noon to 1:30, followed by a Blue Buffalo-sponsored dog parade in the library parking lot at 2, featuring free treats and prizes provided by Pet Pantry Wilton. Registration for the dog parade will take place in the library parking lot from 11 to noon.

Around 3 p.m., the Westport Electric Car Club Rally will roll into the library parking lot. The fourth annual, 35-40 mile event will feature electric vehicles like the Tesla Model X, Gen 2 Chevy Volt, and Cadillac ELR. An award ceremony with Westport Electric Car Club President Leo Cirino will take place at 3:15.

Winters Brothers Waste Systems will also have a shred truck parked in the library parking lot.

May Day 5K

A first-ever Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) May Day 5K, sponsored by the Outdoor Sports Center, will take place before the festival at 10:30.

From the Wilton Library parking lot, runners will make their way through Merwin Meadows Park on the Norwalk River Valley Trail to Wilton High School and back. One water station will be available at the turn-around point at the high school.

After the race, a May Day 5K Award Ceremony will take place during the Go Green Festival on the Town Green Octagon.
