Church reprises Election Day coat drive

Wilton Congregational Church will run its 52nd annual Election Day Coat Drive on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, Nov. 6, 7, and 8.

Donations of new and gently used coats for men, women and children, as well as new and gently used bedding and sleeping bags will be accepted..

Items will be sorted and mended or cleaned, as needed, and then delivered to Wilton Social Services, Person to Person in Darien, the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk and the Bridgeport Rescue Mission. Last year, approximately 1,500 items were collected and distributed to those in need.

Ceci Maher, executive director of Person to Person, told church organizers “We so appreciate your help with clothing for those who might otherwise go without a warm coat this winter.”

Donations may be dropped off at the church at 70 Ridgefield Road on Sunday from 11 to 2, Monday from 8 to 4, and Tuesday from 8 to 4. Directional signs will be posted at the church.
