The Adult Choir at Our Lady of Fatima will present its annual Advent Concert, this year featuring the cantata Morning Star: Celebrating the Everlasting Light of Christmas, composed by Lloyd Larson.

The concert takes place a little earlier this year than usual, said choir director Mary Bozzuti Higgins, with the performance on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 229 Danbury Road.

Larson’s piece is in the style of Lessons and Carols, with two narrators reading from Scripture between each musical offering. Morning Star weaves familiar carols with newly composed melodies, all combining to create an easy listening experience and a prayerful reflection on the season of Advent and Christmas. Highlighted in the finale, and in keeping with the theme of light, is the familiar African American spiritual, This Little Light of Mine.

The 16-voice ensemble will also offer some works of John Rutter, Christmas Lullabye  and Angels Carol, along with a few additional crowd favorites. The concert will be accompanied by Ernie Hadley, organist and director of the Music Ministry at Our Lady of Fatima.

This is a free, child-friendly, one-hour-long event, meant to bring families and friends together to celebrate the season.
