Using Columbus Day as a departure point, the Wilton Historical Society will offer a workshop for children called Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 11 to 12:30.
Children will learn about the exchange of ideas and goods around the globe, the evolution of maps and their impact on the world, and the spice trade. They will also make a globe-shaped paperweight filled with spices such as star anise, nutmeg and pepper. Children will also help make their snack, a spice shortcake.
