Mr. Cavanaugh worked as a reporter for ABC News and later for CBS. He interviewed, among others, Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson and then future president, Richard Nixon. A writer for The New York Times for more than 25 years, Mr. Cavanaugh is currently a columnist for the Stamford Advocate.

His other books include Damn the Disabilities: Full Speed Ahead!, Tunney (which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in biography by publisher Random House), Giants Among Men, The Gipper, and Season of ’42.
