Last weekend, the American Radio Relay League held its annual ‘field day’ event at Veterans Memorial Park in Norwalk. Ham radio clubs all over the country participate over a 24-hour period to see how many stations they can contact over the air. Clubs operate from temporary locations to test their ability to set up emergency communications after a disaster. From left, Wilton residents Tom Gunther (call sign W1TEG), Paul LaVorgna (W1PPL) and Lisa Neuscheler (KC1YL) participated as members of the Greater Norwalk Amateur Radio Club. Club members made over 3,000 contacts to every state in the U.S. during the 24 hours. For more information about ham radio, visit www.arrl.org.
