The Kent and Hurlbutt Street schoolhouses of Wilton are among those featured in a new book, Connecticut Schoolhouses Through Time by Melinda K. Elliott. She will share her expertise on historic schoolhouses in the state Sunday, Oct. 29, from 1 to 4, at the Peter Parley Schoolhouse on the corner of West Land and South Salem Road in Ridgefield.

The book features then-and-now photographs of almost 100 one-room  (with a few two-room) schoolhouses throughout the state. In addition to the Wilton schools, other area schools include Peter Parley and Branchville Schools in Ridgefield, Umpawaug School in Redding, Rock School in New Canaan, Plumtrees School in Bethel and King and Whiteoak schools in Danbury. Each schoolhouse is presented on a single page with a historic picture, a new color picture and a short history.

Elliot lives in Southbury where she is a director and docent of the Bullet Hill Schoolhouse. Copies of her book will be available for purchase and signing.
