Advent concert features Christmas Cantata

The adult choir of Our Lady of Fatima Church will present its free, annual Advent Concert featuring the Christmas Cantata, Nowell, Nowell, Emmanuel on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 3:30, in the Chapel of the Villa de Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road.

Composed by Gilbert M. Martin and Terry Kirkland, and scored for choir and congregation, this piece follows the familiar and basic Lessons and Carols format which combines scripture readings with music and songs.

The work takes the listener from the prophecy of Isaiah to the birth of Christ with readings from the books of John and Luke.

Guest artists this year include flautist Moira Craw and Kyle Nobles, accompanist. Ernie Hadley, director of music ministry at Our Lady of Fatima, will be on keyboard. Mary Bozzuti Higgins is choir director. Narrators are Thomas Dehn, Stephen Pasierb, and Jory Higgins.

In addition to the Cantata, the program will include traditional carols such as John Rutters’ Christmas Lullabye and The Candlelight Carol; Gaudete, a 14th-Century capella piece scored for five-part chorus and percussion; the Italian classic carol, Gesu Bambino; and John Leavitts’ Festival Sanctus.
