Smart Cuckoo Clock for $79.99
AmazonIn another attempt to be everything to everyone, Amazon recently launched a program that allows people to be a part of its product innovation process. It’s called “Build It,” and it’s basically Amazon’s version of Kickstarter.
The idea is a simple one: Amazon rolls out a handful of product concepts, which are available for pre-order for 30 days. If a product hits its pre-order goal before the deadline, it gets built, and the folks who pre-ordered get early access for a special price. If the product doesn’t hit its goal, pre-orders don’t get charged.
The first round of Build It concepts include a Smart Nutrition Scale, a Smart Sticky Note Printer, and a Smart Cuckoo Clock, which seems like it might be the most useful of the three products.
Basically a kitschier version of the Echo Wall Clock, the Smart Cuckoo Clock connects with a compatible Echo device to show visual representations of any timers you set. This is a key feature, saving you from having to repeatedly shout “Alexa, how much time is left?” from across a noisy room. Being a cuckoo clock, the BuildIt product also features a mechanical cuckoo and makes an audio alert through an embedded speaker when your timer’s up.
