Senior Center News: May 29

Do you enjoy dancing? Come and learn some “Latin Moves” with instructor Beatriz Araujo. This four-week dance-a-thon will get you up and moving to the Latin beat. Each class introduces you to a new rhythm to keep you moving and learning. The class meets from 11:45 to 12:30 on Mondays, June 2, 9, 16, and 23. No partner is necessary. Fee for all four classes: $25. Class size is limited. Register at 203-834-6240.

Sketching

Instructor Bob Gresl will cover a variety of basic drawing techniques related to producing a realistic sketch involving basic shapes, shadows, shading, perspective, and composition.

Mr. Gresl moved to Wilton 1979 with his wife, Rita, and their two children. His background in watercolor painting and in technical and freehand sketching facilitated his developing this sketching course.

Class meets from 10 to noon on Tuesdays, June 3 to July 8. The fee for the six-week session is $50. Initial materials are included in this fee and will be waiting for you on June 3. Class size is limited and registration is required. Call 203-834-6240 to register.

Stitching

The Wilton Historical Society Presents “Teaching a New Generation How to Stitch,” Saturday, May 31 and June 14, 2 to 3:30. Volunteers from the Fairfield County Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America will teach people of all ages how to cross-stitch. There will be simple projects that can be completed in one to two sessions. Call the Wilton Historical Society at 203-762-7257 to register.  This program is sponsored by the Christine Dartley Memorial Fund.

Computer courses

Word Graphics will teach Word users how to be creative by learning to  insert pictures and clipart and alter them by enlarging, cropping, and changing their shapes and position in the document. Catherine Myers will teach the class June 16 and 17. The fee is $30.

Andrea Ragusa will offer the introductory Getting Around the Internet on June 10. Experience using a mouse and keyboard are required. The fee is $20.

Students for seniors

Wilton High School students are available to help you use your iPad, smartphone or other device you may not be using to its full capacity. Call Neal Sarup at 203-762-7751 to set up a time to meet at the senior center and get your electronic problems solved.

  • Comstock Writers Group, June 4 and 18,10 to 11:30.
  • Feldenkrais, Friday, 10 to 11, $5 drop-in fee.
  • Tuesday and/or Thursday Yoga, Tuesdays, 11 to noon; Thursdays, 10 to 11, $3 drop-in fee.
