Services available to seniors

For Wilton’s seniors, their families and friends, the Wilton Senior Services booklet published by the Wilton Department of Social Services is invaluable.
  This booklet was printed through the generosity of The Wilton Rotary Club, and it is bursting with names and numbers helpful to Wilton seniors.   During the coming weeks, this column will highlight selected services included in the booklet.   If you need a copy, contact the social services office, 203-834-6238. This week will focus on Geriatric Assessment and Life Care.
Lifeline Connecticut at Family and Children’s Agency : 137 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851; 203-853-3116 or . Family and Children’s Agency offers LIFELINE, a Personal Emergency Response System which is an in-home 24-hour electronic alarm system for at-risk individuals to secure help in an emergency.
Homecare Plus at FCA : 137 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851; . FCA is a not-for-profit agency offering state-licensed home health aide services. In addition, they can provide live-in homecare, homemaking, chores, transportation and escorts, a carpenter/handicap accessibility program, and On the Mend — an in-home child/dependent care service. Some services may have subsidies available.
Griswold Special Care :   2499 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615; 203-304-6031, . Griswold Home Care is a network of purpose-driven and caring professionals who work with each family to enable independence through non-medical home care services. As a reputable provider of services, Griswold offers home care for elders and refers caregivers who provide non-medical care to mostly seniors and adults who need assistance with activities of daily living.

As a locally owned, non-medical business, Home Instead Senior Care offers friendly, responsive service right in your neighborhood.   They are dedicated to making the community a better place to live for seniors and their families. Home Instead, Inc. began franchising in 1995. Today, the Home Instead Senior Care network has grown to include more than 1,000 franchises around the world, including the office in Norwalk. While the franchise network is international, the office is locally owned.

Low cost, high-quality hot and cold meals prepared locally and delivered Monday, Wednesday, Friday as needed. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
Lifefone : 800-882-2280 or . Lifefone is a 24-hour, in-home emergency response system. LifeFone has been in business since 1976. Its U.S.-based care agents assist you 24/7. It is easy to install, rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau, and can be worn as a fully waterproof pendant and wristband.
Family Care Plus : 2573 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615; 877-887-2273, . Family Care Plus specializes in live-in elder care, staffed by specially trained caregivers, all of whom are supervised by field supervisors. Family Care Plus is a non-medical agency founded in 1997 which specializes in 24-hour home care.
RUOK (Are You OK?) Wilton Police Department: 203-834-6260. RUOK is a computerized telephone calling service to confirm the well-being of seniors, disabled persons or shut-ins. Each morning subscribers receive a phone call which asks, “Are you OK?” If there is no response, Wilton police visit the home to check on the person. Service is free.

Lunch at the Greens

The Greens at Cannondale will host a complimentary lunch and activity today at noon. This event is free and open to the public. Call the senior center for reservations at 203-834-6240.

Summer Corridors

Corridors is the bi-monthly newsletter for the senior center. It is mailed to Wilton residents who are registered voters age 60 and above. For the months of July and August, Corridors is available at the senior center and on the town website at Just click on the newsletter icon on the right panel of the homepage.

In the course of the renovation project, individual rooms in the senior center and social services wing of the building may, from time to time, become unavailable for public use.
