Senior Center News: July 24

UBS will host a complimentary lunch and presentation at noon on Tuesday, July 29, at the Senior Center. The presentation will focus on funding a child or grandchild’s education and the advantage of 529 plans, the cost of tuition today and in the future, and how using tax-free growth via 529 plans can help cover the costs of tuition. The presentation will include basic gifting strategies as well. This is an informational session presented by Frederick Lawrence, vice president, wealth management, UBS Financial Services, Inc. Services available to seniors

For Wilton’s seniors, their families and friends, the Wilton Senior Services booklet published by the Wilton Department of Social Services is invaluable. This booklet was printed through the generosity of the Wilton Rotary Club, and it is bursting with names and numbers helpful to Wilton seniors. This week will focus on Care Management Services, Elderly Housing and Nursing Homes, and Assisted Living Facilities.

Care management services

Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County: LifeCare Management; 20-762-8952, ext. 249; Provides individuals who wish to remain at home a LifeCare Manager who develops and monitors a customized plan of care to meet the needs of the individual and their family. The overall goal is to optimize an individual’s ability to enjoy good health and quality of life as long as possible, while remaining at home.

Geriatric Care Management at Waveny Care Center: 3 Farm Road, New Canaan, CT 06840, 203-594-5300, www.waveny.org; Professional team with 24/7 coverage. Provides families and individuals with case management support to enable an elderly person remain in their own home with appropriate services.

Elderly housing and nursing homes

Eighty-five apartments for those 62 and over or mobility impaired. Residents must be capable of caring for themselves alone or with their own arranged services. Section 8 financial subsidy. Income limits apply.

Wilton Commons: 21 Station Road, Wilton, CT 06897. 203-672-0249; Affordable, independent living, rental community for seniors age 62 and up. Income limits apply.

Corridors

Corridors is the bimonthly newsletter for the Senior Center. It is mailed to Wilton residents who are registered voters age 60 and above. For July and August, Corridors is available at the Senior Center and on the town website at www.wiltonct.org. Just click on the newsletter icon on the right panel of the homepage.

Need computer help?

Students for Seniors, in conjunction with the Wilton Senior Center, presents a program that will help you learn all about your electronic devices! This one-on-one assistance will focus in on your questions so that you learn as much as you can about your device! Just contact Neal Sarup, president of Students for Seniors, at 203-762-7751 to schedule an appointment! This service is free and open to adults in the community. Sessions take place at the Senior Center.
