Senior Center News: Feb. 20

The Wilton Senior Center offers many opportunities to play bridge.

Duplicate Bridge is a form of contract bridge in which contestants play identical cards, with each deal being scored independently, permitting comparison of individual scores. For all levels of play. This is not a sanctioned game. Dan DeVlieg will supervise. Wednesdays, 10 to 12:30, $5 drop-in fee.

Duplicate bridge: third Tuesday of the month, Maureen Turnier at 203-762-9386.

Calling all models

Join us for a fashion show at Ogden House on Wednesday, March 12. Lunch is served at noon, and the fashion show will follow in the Great Hall, 100 River Road.

Ogden House program coordinator Betty Castillo will collaborate with Sharon Sobel, president of the Turnover Shop, on this event. The Turnover Shop in Wilton will provide fashions modeled by Ogden House and other Wilton residents. Everything modeled is for sale at bargain prices. Additional items from the Turnover Shop will also be available for sale.  Would you like to help model these fashions? Call Betty at Ogden House 203-762-8035 to take part.

Play reading

Andrea Ragusa leads The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare, Acts I, II, and III, on Monday, March 3, at 12:30. Acts IV and V will be read later in March.

Call the senior center at 203-834-6240 to register. Copies of the play are available in the senior center café.

Tax relief

Applications for the Wilton Tax Relief Program for Elderly or Disabled Homeowners and the State of Connecticut Elderly and Totally Disabled Tax Relief Program are available at the assessor’s office in town hall. The filing period for both programs extends to May 15. For additional information, call 203-563-0122.

Book discussion

David Ostergren will lead a discussion of The Guns of August by Barbara W. Tuchman on Tuesday, Feb. 25. This Pulitzer Prize-winning classic deals with the beginning of World War I.

Chick flick

Sponsored by Stay at Home in Wilton, the film Calendar Girls will be shown Tuesday, Feb. 25, 3 to 5, at the senior center. Admission is free and there will be popcorn and refreshments.

Great decisions

The Wilton Woman’s Club invites you to participate in the Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions program. Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs.  This program highlights eight of the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans each year. Great Decisions provides background information, current data, and policy options for each issue and serves as the focal text for discussion groups. Visit for program details.

Weather policy

If Wilton public schools are closed due to weather, the senior center activities for that same day are canceled.  Even if activities are canceled, the senior center is open.  Call 203-834-6240 after 7 a.m. and listen to the recording for specific information on the day’s events.
