Duplicate bridge with Dan

Duplicate bridge is a form of contract bridge in which contestants play identical cards, with each deal being scored independently, permitting comparison of  individual scores. For all level of playing. This is not a sanctioned game. Dan DeVlieg will supervise. Wednesdays, 10 to 12:30, $5 drop-in fee.

Beginner and intermediate bridge

Classes for intermediate and beginning bridge will begin late September. Days and times to be announced.

Bridge groups

If you would like to join other seniors in an afternoon of bridge from noon to 3, call the organizers listed below:

Services Available to Seniors

For Wilton's seniors, their families and friends, the Wilton Senior Services booklet published by the Wilton Department of Social Services is invaluable. This booklet was printed through the generosity of the Wilton Rotary Club, and it is bursting with names and numbers helpful to Wilton seniors. During the coming weeks, this column will highlight selected services included in the booklet. If you need a copy, contact Sharon Powers in the Social Services office, 203-834-6238. This week will focus on Geriatric Assessment and Life Care, Part 2.

  • Lifeline Connecticut at FCA, 137 East Avenue, Norwalk; 203-853-3116 or familyandchildrensagency.org.
  • Family and Children's Agency offers Lifeline, a personal emergency response system, which is an in-home, 24-hour electronic alarm system for at-risk individual to secure help in an emergency.
  • Homecare Plus at FCA,  137 East Ave., Norwalk; familyandchildrensagency.org.

FCA is a not-for-profit agency offering state licensed home health aide services. In addition, they can provide live-in homecare, homemaking, chores, transportation and escorts, a carpenter/handicap accessibility program, and On The Mend- an In-home child/dependent care service. Some services may have subsidies available.

  • Griswold Special Care, 2499 Main St., Stratford; 203-852- 9707. Personal hands-on care and homemaker/companion services. Hourly or live-in.
  • Home Instead Senior Care, 128 East Ave., Norwalk; 203-853-0370. Non-medical companion and home helped services. Hourly or live-in.
  • Wilton Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 125, Wilton; 203-762-0566. Low cost, high quality hot and cold meals prepared locally and delivered Monday, Wednesday, Friday as needed. Financial assistance to those who qualify.
  • Lifefone, 24-hour emergency response system; l-800-882-2280 or lifefone.com.
  • Family Care Plus, 2573 Main St., Stratford; 203-438-6299. A non-medical home care agency specializing in 24 hour care.
  • Ruok (Are You OK?),  Wilton Police Department, 240 Danbury Road; 203-834-6260. Social Services, 203-834-6238. A computerized telephone calling service to confirm the well being of seniors, disabled persons or shut-ins. Each morning subscribers receive a phone call which asks, “Are you OK?” If there is no response, Wilton police visit the home to check on the person. Service is free.

Corridors

Corridors is the bi-monthly newsletter for the Wilton Senior Center. It is mailed to Wilton residents who are registered voters age 60 and above. For the months of July and August, the Corridors is available at thesenior center and on the town website at wiltonct.org. Just click on the newsletter icon on the right panel of the homepage.

Need help wiht your computer? Confused with your nw iPad? Don’t know how to use your phone? We’re here to help! Students for Seniors, in conjunction with the Wilton Senior Center, presents a program that will help you learn all about your electronic devices. This one-on-one assistance will focus in on your questions so that you learn as much as you can about your device! Just contact Neal Sarup, President of Students for Seniors, at 203-762-7751 to schedule an appointment.  This service is free and open to adults in the community.  Sessions take place at the Wilton Senior Center.
