Bridge lessons begin tomorrow

Introduction to Bridge classes will take place on Fridays, Oct. 6 to Nov. 17, 11:30 to 1:15. The cost is $70 for the seven-week series intended for the player with very little or no bridge experience. Mike Hess, Instructor.

On Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 1 to 2:30, Melissa Baker of Wilton Library will guide participants through downloading materials from the library. Bring your own device to the senior center and follow along. There is something for everyone and hours of enjoyment for patrons with Wilton Library cards. Registration is required: or 203-762-3950.

Medicare information

On Thursday, Oct. 12, Nancy Lombard from the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging (SWCAA) will present What’s New with Medicare in the senior center lounge from 1 to 3. This program will contain useful information for all Medicare beneficiaries, particularly those seniors new to Medicare. Advance registration is not required.

On Monday, Nov. 6, representatives from SWCAA will meet one-on-one with individuals regarding the Medicare Part D prescription drug program. Appointments are available between 10 and 2 for any Medicare beneficiary who has Medicare Part A or Part B or both. November is the time to get the help you need to choose or change your prescription drug plan. It is strongly recommended that you review your plan annually as plan coverage and drug costs often change for the coming year. In order to attend this session, you must schedule an appointment through the Social Services office, 203-834-6238. Speak with either Debbie or Lauren.

Computer classes

Word Basics for Beginners is for people who are new to word processing. Some prior use of the mouse and knowledge of the keyboard are required. Keyboarding practice handout is included. Taught by Andrea Ragusa on Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 10 to noon. Fee: $10.

Internet Basics for Beginners begins with an overview, followed by the concepts and terminology needed to get you searching the web and downloading information and pictures. Also learn how to email attachments, save, and print. Some prior use of the mouse and knowledge of the keyboard are required.  Keyboarding practice handout is included. Nursing agency programs

The following programs take place at the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association (RVNA) offices at 27 Governor Street in Ridgefield. Please sign up in advance by email at or by calling 203-438-5555.  Prepayment of fees, where indicated, is required.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers — Thursdays, Oct. 19 through Nov. 30 (no class on Thanksgiving), 1:30 to 4. Participants learn tools and strategies to better cope with the challenges caregivers face. Free. Participants are expected to attend all six sessions. Each will receive a copy of The Caregiver Handbook.

Cholesterol Challenge – Tuesdays, Oct. 10 through Nov. 14, 11:30 to 1, $195. Begin with a weigh-in and a check of your cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure levels.  Learn cooking techniques and healthy eating strategies to bring your cholesterol down naturally. Food demonstrations and tastings included in every class. Test your numbers at the end of the program to check your progress.
