Mental illness awareness
Held annually during Mental Illness Awareness Week in October, National Depression Screening Day (NDSD) raises awareness and screens people for depression and related mood and anxiety disorders. Screenings are free and are available at locations throughout Fairfield County. Wilton will be offering free confidential screenings on Oct. 3 at the senior center.
Screenings will take place from 11 to 1. No appointment necessary.
Sonia Katz will teach the simple steps of self-hypnosis Thursday, Oct. 3 and 17, and again Nov. 7 and 21 at 2, at the senior center.
Ms. Katz studied hypnosis with Dr. Brian Weiss, author of Many Lives, Many Masters. She will teach how to achieve relaxation through breathing techniques, guided meditation and position, and how to plant the proper suggestions in the unconscious mind in order to achieve goals.
There is a $5 drop-in fee; advance registration recommended.

This is a Word program for the person who wishes to become creative in its use. Learn how to insert pictures and clip art and then alter them by enlarging, cropping, and changing their shapes and position in the document. Step into the world of graphics that Word offers for adding special effects to the material. Come with an idea and the course will show you how to do it in Word 2007 or reference 2010, which has slightly more graphics. Catherine Myers will teach the class Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 9:30 to 11:30, in the Comstock Computer Learning Center. The fee is $30. Call 203-762-8445 to register.
