Converted Connecticut dairy farm with silo listed for $1 million

The bright red home on 391 Kent Cornwall Road had a previous life as a barn and silo.

Originally built as a dairy farm in 1900, the 3,600 square-foot home was converted by its prior owners, according to the listing, but maintains original details such as “hand-hewn posts and beams, cathedral ceilings with skylights and a silo.” Now on the market for $1 million, listing agent Daniel Kramp with William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty said the sellers also made some changes to the property.

“The current owners completed significant renovations, investing in antique furniture and art to highlight the history of the space, redoing the kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, and updating the baths, heating and mechanicals,” he said in an email.

In the primary bedroom’s en-suite, there are radiant-heated floors, according to the listing, while the original silo is now home to offices and a gym. There’s also an industrial-grade range and stove in the kitchen, as well as a wine cellar off of the kitchen. There are four bedrooms and four bathrooms spread across the home’s 3,600 square feet, and in every room, there are exposed wood beams and features like spiral staircases, pellet stoves and wide-plank floors.

Outside the home, there’s an electric car-charging station, backyard patio and heated pool. The home’s more than 14 acres of land are surrounded on both sides by Kent land trust, and it also has hiking trails that lead to a private stretch of waterfront on the Housatonic River. The listing notes that on the other side of the river, the property borders the Appalachian Trail.
