With the start of the 2015-17 legislative term State Rep. Tom O\u2019Dea (R-125) has been named ranking member of the legislature\u2019s Transportation Committee. Mr. O\u2019Dea represents New Canaan and part of Wilton. The appointment was made by House Republican Leader Themis Klarides Jan. 7,\u00a0 following the announcement that long-time state Rep. David Scribner of Brookfield would not be taking the oath of office in order to accept an appointment with the Department of Consumer Protection.\u00a0 Mr. Scribner had held the post of ranking member on the committee for many years. \u201cI deeply appreciate the House Republican Leader\u2019s faith in my ability to serve as ranking member on the Transportation Committee,\u201d Mr. O\u2019Dea said in a press release.\u00a0 \u201cTransportation issues, including infrastructure and congestion problems, are a tremendous concern to the residents of our region of Connecticut.\u00a0 For many years the legislature has moved vital funds from critical projects to fund pet projects while our roads and bridges deteriorated. I want to stop that dangerous trend, and redouble our commitment to solving these problems which are some of the most significant we will examine during this session.\u201d Transportation was one of the \u201clargest challenges\u201d facing the state identified by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in his State of the State address Wednesday. \u201cRepresentative O\u2019Dea has proven himself as a capable, thorough and conscientious legislator during his comparatively short time in the House,\u201d Ms. Klarides (R-114) said.\u00a0 \u201cI know that his constituents and our caucus can count on his steady leadership on the Transportation Committee, and I look forward to working with him in this new capacity.\u201d Mr. O\u2019Dea, an attorney in practice with the firm of Diserio, Martin, O\u2019Connor & Castiglioni, LLP,\u00a0 was sworn into his second term Wednesday. Mr. O\u2019Dea also serves on the Judiciary Committee and is ranking member of the Regulations Review Committee.
