State Rep. Brendan Sharkey (D-Hamden) will be the featured speaker at the Wilton Democratic Town Committee’s Annual Spring Breakfast on Saturday, April 27, from 9 to 11, at  Trackside, 15 Station Road.

This is one of the committee’s three major fund-raisers held each year. The money raised is used to support candidates in local and state elections. The year will see municipal and congressional races.

The morning also serves as an opportunity for people to mingle and chat with fellow Democrats — and unaffiliated voters — to share ideas and learn about issues critical to the town, state and country. Last year’s guest speaker was Gov. Dannell Malloy.

Mr. Sharkey is speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives. He will address challenges and opportunities facing the state.

Re-elected in November 2012 to serve a seventh term as state representative, Mr. Sharkey was elected speaker of the house on Jan. 9, 2013. He previously served as house majority leader, as chair of the Planning & Development and Program Review & Investigations committees, and as a member of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee.

Born in New Jersey, Mr. Sharkey moved to Connecticut in 1971. He is a 1984 graduate of Georgetown University and received his law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1989.

Tickets are $35 and include a complete breakfast catered by Marianne Wilson Catering of Wilton. They may be purchased online at wiltondems.org; click on 2013 Spring Breakfast.
