The Republican Town Committee announced on its Facebook page Oct. 11 that they have elected William Lalor as their new chairman, replacing Al Alper.

The announcement was made following the RTC’s monthly meeting, where the election took place.

Alper resigned as chairman last month after others were nominated ahead of him to run for selectman in the town-wide elections Nov. 7.

Lalor, who has lived in Wilton since 2013 with his wife and two children, is a member of the Wilton Parks and Recreation Commission. He is an attorney with Elenius Frost & Walsh, in New York City and Tarrytown.

Lalor said his is an interim position, since the current chair’s trem expires in early 2018. The RTC will have an election for a new chair at that time, he said.

“As I said to the RTC on Wednesday night, the focus right now has to be the upcoming elections.  We have a fantastic slate of GOP-endorsed candidates for contested Board of Selectmen, Board of Education and other seats, and Wilton will be seeing the candidates around Wilton campaigning and meeting voters in the next few weeks.  As a committee the elections are really our singular focus right now,” he said in a statement.
