WINDSOR — State troopers helped Windsor police apprehend three suspects in the armed robbery of a gas station Saturday night, according to a report from State Police Troop H.

Windsor police alerted other departments to be on the lookout for the suspects in a holdup of a Sunoco station near Exit 37 of I-91, near Route 305, about 11:20 p.m., state police said.

The suspects were armed, according to State Police Troop H, and had fled onto I-91 south.

Trooper First Class Scott McCarthy saw a red sedan matching the description of the suspects’ vehicle as it exited from I-91 onto I-84 west, according to Troop H. It then made “an abrupt turn from the left travel lane toward the Exit 48 ramp in the city of Hartford, possibly in an attempt to elude police,” state police said.

State Police said they immediately stopped the car, and inside found a fake black handgun, a large knife, a large amount of U.S. currency, black gloves with a red stripe and a black face covering hidden near the front seat passenger.

Windsor police arrived at the scene and arrested the three men in the vehicle in connection with the armed robbery, state police said.

State Police referred requests for more information about the arrest and charges to Windsor Police. A message was not immediately returned.
