Police: 4 charged with burglarizing cars in Wilton

Two men from New Haven and two juveniles were charged with burglarizing cars in Wilton, according to police. They also allegedly used credit cards they found in the vehicles.

WILTON — Two New Haven men, as well as two minors, were charged with burglarizing cars in town earlier this year, police said.

The men — identified as Giovanni Abreu, 18, and Keisean Dwayne Chavis, 20 — and the two minors are accused of driving around North Wilton to find unlocked vehicles, police said. When they found a car unlocked with its keys inside, they stole the vehicle and used any credit cards inside to purchase gas and other items at a gas station in New Haven, according to the Wilton Police Department.

Police said the arrests were related to a stolen motor vehicle from Jan. 18.

Police apprehended Abreau on July 12 and charged him with third-degree criminal trespassing, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, illegal use of credit card, conspiracy to illegally use a credit card, third-degree identity theft and conspiracy to commit third-degree identity theft. He was held on a $100,000 bond.

Abreau is next scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 24, judicial records state.

Chavis was apprehended on Jan. 26. He was charged with third-degree criminal trespassing, first-degree larceny of a motor vehicle valued at more than $20,000, third-degree identity theft and stealing a firearm. He was released after posting a $100 bond, according to court records.

Chavis is next scheduled to appear in court on July 29, judicial records show.
