Newtown prison officer misconduct case continued
DANBURY — The disposition hearing of the Garner Correctional Institution employee accused of misconduct has been pushed to August.
Jennie Reese, 32, is charged with two counts of conveying unauthorized items into a correctional institution for allegedly exchanging letters with an inmate and sneaking a cell phone into the maximum security prison in Newtown where she worked as a corrections officer.
Reese is also facing a false statement charge because police said she admitted to exchanging letters with the inmate after providing a written statement denying to have done so.
An investigation was launched in July 2019 after an inmate reported that he and Reese exchanged love letters and had sexual contact.
The inmate also accused Reese of sneaking a cell phone into the prison and showing him a partially nude picture of herself on it.
Police said they seized two letters Reese had written to the inmate, as well as a “dedicated notebook” with draft letters the inmate had written for Reese.
Reese pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on $1,000 bond. Her disposition hearing at state Superior Court in Danbury is now scheduled for Aug. 3.
