BRIDGEPORT — City firefighters quickly extinguished a car fire on Interstate 95, while other emergency personnel shut down three lanes of travel to give them room to work Thursday night.

The call came in around 7:13 p.m. for a reported vehicle fire on I-95 south near Exit 26. The first arriving fire unit confirmed a fully involved car fire in the right breakdown lane.

Connecticut State Police units were also on scene.

The three right lanes were closed to traffic as crews worked to get the flames out.

By 7:29 p.m. the battalion chief on scene said the fire was out and issued the recall. And by 7:38 p.m. the fire units cleared from the highway and returned to service.
