Joanne A. Waters, beloved wife of Francis J. Waters, died peacefully at Norwalk Hospital on November 13, 2017. She was 87. A resident of Norwalk for over 60 years, Joanne was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on December 14, 1929. A lifelong Nittany Lion fan, she was awarded a BA, magna cum laude, from Penn State University. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. Following graduation, she became a school teacher before working at Remington Rand in South Norwalk where she met her husband-to-be. She later became an accountant at GTE in Stamford. Joanne volunteered at many activities including the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Connecticut Tourism Board and the Norwalk United Methodist Church, and she and Francis took great pleasure in traveling throughout the United States. Joanne was the daughter of the late William G. and Mary S. Ashman. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, David Waters (Cindy), Nyolee \u201cSue\u201d Costello (Rudy), Joyce Ratliff (James) and William \u201cWoody\u201d Waters, by her beloved grandchildren Michael Gienger, Caroline Gienger, Thomas Costello, Steven Costello and Rachel Waters, and by her brother William (Lois) Ashman. The Waters family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson\u2019s research, or to a favorite charity.
