Marie Sommer Key, of Sarasota, Fla., who once served as a senior services director in Wilton, died on Saturday, Aug. 25. Her family reported that she died after a very short battle with cancer, alongside her family members in Katy, Texas. Ms. Key was born in Bronxville, N.Y., to the late Emil Sommer Jr. and Elizabeth O'Krien Sommer, grew up in Armonk, N.Y., and married Stephen Key in August 1968. She graduated from Green Mountain College and received her associate's degree in liberal arts. She then attended Ohio State University. She was very active in the communities she lived in, particularly in the nonprofit world, her family said. She served as president of the Junior League of Scarsdale, and worked with the Lighthouse for the Blind. She also served a senior services director in Ridgefield and Sarasota. She was, by calling, a professional volunteer, her family said. She is survived by her ex-husband, a daughter, two sons, two grandchildren and two brothers. A celebration of her life will be held privately by her family. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
