William Vennes, 73

William Thompson “Bill” Vennes, 73, husband of Nancy Hall Vennes, died May 3, 2014. He was born in Lexington and was the only child of the late Leon and Catherine Vennes.

Mr. Vennes graduated from Lafayette High School, Class of 1958, and the University of Kentucky, where he was a UK fellow. He worked 30 years with IBM where he held a number of managerial and executive positions. When he retired in 1996, he was the vice president and general manager of the Imaging Solutions Division at Lexmark. He and his family lived in Wilton from 1977 to 1988.

Over the years he served on many boards in the Lexington area. He was a founding director and served on the executive committee of First Security Bank. In retirement he enjoyed horse racing, UK basketball, fishing and his nine grandchildren.

Other than his wife Nancy, he is survived by three children, William Jr. (Laurie), Pittsburgh, Pa., Beth Askeland (Corrin), Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Julie Hancock (Rhett), Darien, Conn. He was grandfather to William, Brent, Emmett, Drew, Gunnar,  Anders, Abigail, Cooper, and Beau.

A memorial services was held  at Christ Church Cathedral, Lexington, Ky.
