Romano Capocci, 65

Romano Capocci passed away peacefully on Jan. 10, 2015, surrounded by his loving family after a five-year courageous battle with pancreatic cancer that he fought with tremendous strength, dignity and grace. Romano was a Wilton resident of 35 years. He was born in Picinisco, Italy on Aug. 2,1949, to the late Domenico and Guiseppa Capocci.

Romano is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Angelina. His sons Jeremy (Shannon), and Michael, his much loved grandchildren Abigail, Caitlyn, and Jack Romano. He is also survived by four brothers, Bill (Mary), Frank (Rosemarie), Nick (Jenny) and Fiore (Susan) and two sisters, Lina (Thomas) Kalinowski and Anna (Joseph) Pollicella. As well as many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. His brother, Aldo, and niece, Alison, predeceased him.

A 1968 graduate of Port Chester High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1970, proudly serving his country on the U.S.S. Paul, during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged in 1974; awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and the Vietnam service medal. He was a lifetime member of Foreign Wars of the United States, Post 375 Yonkers, N.Y., and a member of the Our Lady of Fatima parish in Wilton. Romano worked for Kraft Food for 30 years, retiring in 2007. He enjoyed working with his hands, especially when making furniture or helping family and friends with home remodeling projects.

Romano was a hard worker and great role model. He was a true family man. He will be forever smiling down upon his grandchildren who brought him joy and were the reason he fought so hard to live. His greatest sense of joy was their smile and the sound of their laughter; it truly brought him great pleasure. His wife wants everyone to know she was blessed to have shared her life, love and family with such a wonderful man.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Wilton.
