Robert J. Corrigan, 72

Robert J. Corrigan, aged 72, longtime resident of Wilton, CT and Harwich Port, MA, passed away on June 26, 2013, at home, after a long battle with cancer. Born on August 14, 1940 to Helen and Joseph Corrigan in Babylon, NY, he graduated from Seton Hall High School in 1958. He went on to Manhattan College, Bronx NY, and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering and joined International Business Machines as an engineer. He later obtained a Masters Degree in Industrial Administration from Union College. He married Regina “Jeanne” Marie Owens on June 20, 1964 and had five sons.

Mr. Corrigan assumed increasing responsibilities over his 32-year career with IBM and held managerial positions throughout the US and in Paris, France, ultimately becoming a Vice President of IBM and the President and CEO of the IBM PC Company.  Following his retirement from IBM in 1994, Mr. Corrigan became the President of IMAX Corp. of Toronto, Canada and transformed the business before finally retiring in 1996.

Mr. Corrigan also had a deep commitment to Manhattan College and a strong desire to support and enhance the institution, serving on the School of Business’ Board of Advisors. The Board of Advisors helped structure the school’s management processes and outcomes assessment measures and was instrumental in the school’s accreditation process with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International in 2003. He also volunteered for the American Cancer Society driving homebound and sick individuals to their medical and other appointments.

Mr. Corrigan was an avid golfer and a member of Silver Spring Country Club, Ridgefield, CT, and Cape Cod National Golf Club, Brewster, MA, and was an enthusiastic life-long learner, whether the subject was travel, math, astronomy, music or stamps. He enjoyed sharing his interests with his children and grandchildren, always challenging them to keep learning.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jeanne Corrigan; his sons, Robert Jr., Timothy, Paul, David and Kevin Corrigan, and their spouses; his 12 grandchildren; and his brothers, Michael Corrigan of Mattapoisett, MA and Joseph Corrigan of Poughkeepsie, NY.

Visitation will be at Collins Funeral Home, Norwalk, CT from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday June 29, 2013 and Sunday June 30 with a mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Wilton, CT on Monday July 1, 2013.
