Obituary: Vincent John Nolan Jr., 88

Vincent John Nolan Jr., known affectionately to his family and friends as “Jack,” passed away peacefully on Oct. 18, 2015 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Jack was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Vincent John Nolan Sr. and Agnes Sharples on July 29, 1927.

Having a zest for life, Jack attempted to enroll in the Navy in 1943 at the age of 16 and was unsuccessful. After waiting for another year he finally entered the service in the fall of 1944 and was deployed overseas to Japan. Upon returning home he eventually met Ellen Rohrs who he married in 1961. The two went on to start a loving family which included four children and eventually became proud grandparents of 14 grandchildren.

Jack went on to enjoy a successful career as the President of his own company, Nolan Associates of Wilton. Jack was an avid golfer, a loyal Giants fan and a big fan of any sport when his children or grandchildren were involved. As his children and grandchildren grew up he took a very active role in their lives by attending every event they were involved in.

Jack was described by his family as being “one of a kind,” and wherever his family was that is where he loved to be. Jack had a great love of the ocean and lived life to the fullest.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ellen Nolan of Wilton, his children, Vincent J. Nolan III and his wife Guilana of Avon, Barbara Nolan Rossi of Wilton, Michelle Bartlett and her husband Hugh Bartlett of Fairfield and Kevin J. Nolan and his wife Fran of Fairfield. Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Ryan Nolan, Mackenzie Nolan, Sean Nolan, Samantha Rossi, Julia Rossi, Lauren Rossi, Ian Bartlett, Grady Bartlett, Tyler Bartlett, Shannon Nolan, Katie Nolan, Emily Nolan, Jack Nolan and Lindsey Nolan. Jack is also survived by his two sisters Nancy Hughes of Illinois and Judy Garvin of Minnesota. Jack was predeceased by his brother Richard “Dick” Nolan, and by his two sisters, Phyllis Southard and Marijane N. Barry.
