Obituary: Roscoe K. Fawcett Jr.

Roscoe “Rocky” Kent Fawcett Jr., 81, of Lyons Falls, NY, died January 1, 2018 surrounded by family and under the care of hospice at his son’s home in Wilton, CT.

Born November 8, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN and raised in Greenwich, CT, he was the son of the late Roscoe K. Fawcett Sr. and Marie Ann Formanek, and the grandson of Wilford Hamilton “Captain Billy” Fawcett who founded Fawcett Publications in 1919.

A graduate of Greenwich Country Day and Taft Rocky he attended Middlebury College, and graduated with a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. While at Penn he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, the Sphinx Senior Honor Society, Kite and Key Society and began the Ice Hockey program of which he was Captain. He also attended University of Virginia Law School and was an original member of The Stanwich Club.

Rocky worked in advertising, marketing and publishing in New York City, Williamstown, MA and Los Angeles. Some of his positions were: Director of Development and Alumni Relations Miss Halls’ School, Executive Vice President Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, Fund Raising Consultant Putnam Indian Field School, and Reunion Chairman Greenwich Country Day School and Taft.

Upon retirement Rocky moved to Lyons Falls NY and being someone to never sit on the sidelines was active in his new community holding many designations: President and Vice President Lyons Falls ALIVE, board member of too many groups to mention, Vestry for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Supervisor Town of Lyonsdale, Vice President Lewis County Development Corporation, Board Chairman County of Lewis Industrial Development Agency and had recently been elected to his second term as a Lewis County Legislator.

Preceded in death by daughter Mary Sinclair Arguimbau (Peter), Rocky is survived by wife Mary; brothers Peter (Ann), and Stephen; sons Roscoe Kent III (Sharon), and Gavin Scott (Colleen); daughter Dinah Fawcett Young; grandchildren Andre and Terra (children of Mary); James and Elizabeth (children of Kent); Gavin and Benjamin (children of Scott); Gunnar and Banks (children of Dinah); and great-grandson Lucas, son of James (Sarah). Rocky was preceded in death by first wife Pamela Miller (mother of Mary, Kent and Scott), and was also married to Dinah Fulton (mother of Dinah), and Shearson Jones.

Rocky will be remembered for his warm smile, charm and great wit; and for always having a great story to tell.

Celebrations of his life will be held this spring in Lyons Falls, NY and Greenwich, CT.
