Mary Castle Dryden, 91

Mary Castle Dryden passed away on January 13, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Roxbury, Connecticut. She was 91 years old.

Born Mary Edith Woods Castle on October 28, 1922 in Oak Park, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Lester Davis Castle and Dorothy Woods Castle. She was the wife of the late Charles Curtis Reynolds Dryden. She was pre deceased by her brother, the late Robert Woods Castle.

A graduate of Oak Park High School and Bradford College, she completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science at the University of Michigan. Her early career was in banking, beginning with her father’s bank the National Bank of Austin in Illinois, and continuing in Michigan, Ohio and Connecticut. There followed 19 years in the real estate re-location industry with the former Peterson H&H Corporation in Wilton, CT.

She was an active volunteer: a Boy Scouts Den Mother, Girls Scouts Troop Leader, and PTA officer in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where she and her family lived for 19 years before moving to Wilton, Connecticut. In Wilton, while continuing her banking and real estate careers, she was member and tour guide for the Wilton Historical Society, a member of Logic (an investment club), and a Senior Book Club member. She resided in Wilton for 40 years before moving to New Milford, CT in 2007 where she was a volunteer for the Housatonic Valley Association.

A most gracious host, her home was always open to the friends of her children and relatives who fondly recollect the joyous gatherings at holidays or just dropping by for a visit and spirited discussion. She will forever be cherished by her family and those who knew her. She was laid to rest next to her beloved husband Chuck in Pikesville, Maryland.

She is survived by her two sons C. Curtis R. Dryden, Jr. and his wife Nancy, of Wilton, CT and Philip L. Dryden and his wife Min of Hopkinton, MA; her daughter Maridith Dryden Schrang and her husband David P. Schrang of Roxbury, CT; and her four granddaughters: Nellen Dryden, Siena Dryden, Elizabeth Schrang, Abigail Schrang.
