Josephine Seuringer Mahoney, 78

Josephine Seuringer Mahoney of Wilton, CT passed away on August 7, 2014, after a long battle with a respiratory illness. Jo, as she was known, was 78 years old.

Jo was born on November 3, 1935 in New York, NY to Joseph and Kunigunda Seuringer. Her parents, who had immigrated from Germany in the 1920’s, raised her and her younger sister, Diana, in Queens, NY, where her belief in God and faith in the Catholic Church played key roles in the woman, wife, mother, and friend she would become. After graduating from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing as an R.N., Jo went on to receive her B.S. from Columbia University.  She then began a lifelong mission of helping others.

In 1958, she met William “Bill” Mahoney; on June 6th 1959, they were married. In 1960, Jo and Bill welcomed the first of their four children, Patrice, to the world, and Jo turned her attention to her burgeoning family. While being a loving mother and wife were most important, Jo continued her professional development becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner in 1975. She worked at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, and Head Start in Stamford, CT.  But, family was always foremost in her life. Jo was the mother of four, grandmother of 13, and great-grandmother of one.

Josephine is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Bill, children, Patrice, John, Scott, and David, her sister, Diana, grandchildren, Jennifer, Diana, Bailey, Emma, Jack, Peter, Gus, Margaret, Alex, Sean, Mary Kate, Megan, Pearce, and Buck, and her children’s spouses John, Martha, Molly, and Annie.

A funeral mass was held Monday, Aug. 11, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
