She later worked for Technoserve, a non-profit organization providing business building assistance to countries struggling with poverty. During these years, Mrs. McGehee also attended college to earn her degree, and in 1978 received a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Psychology and Political Science from Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, CT.

Throughout her life, Mrs. McGehee, known as “Betty” to her family and friends, enjoyed gardening, swimming at the YMCA, reading and traveling extensively throughout Europe and Latin America. She was very active within the New Horizon’s Group of St. Matthew Parish in Norwalk, volunteered at the Darien Library, and was Treasurer of the Darien Community Association. She always enjoyed attending classes at Norwalk Community College, Lifetime Learners program. She particularly cherished spending time with her grandchildren and family along with many friends, both locally and in Costa Rica.
