News Notes: Concert’s success translates into 35,000 meals

To the Editors:

Wi-ACT’s Stop-Hunger-Now Benefit Concert held on April 6 was a great success thanks to very generous individual and corporate donors and many ticket purchasers, and to our outstanding artists who volunteered their talents: lyric soprano Anna Rita Tornello and orchestral piano soloist Erica vanderLinde Feidner.

The proceeds from this annual concert — combined with annual donations from Wi-ACT’s faith institutions and generous individuals — support the work of packaging meals for otherwise starving children and of seeing to it that these meals are served in educational settings where children are nourished in mind as well as in body. This year’s concert has raised sufficient funds to package an additional 35,000 meals. That will bring the total to 150,000 meals packaged during Wi-ACT’s all-day meal-packaging event this coming October, and that total means that 400 otherwise starving children will be fed for an entire year!

Wi-ACT’s meal-packaging event will be held this year on Saturday, Oct. 25. The event brings together 600 of our fellow Wiltonians — from the 10 Wilton faith institutions, Christian, Jewish and Muslim, whose congregations comprise Wi-ACT’s membership — to do this important work, joining together in two-hour shifts all day. Please know that you and family members are welcome to join in. Children as young as 7 can be gainfully employed in this work, and everyone has a wonderful time doing it!

We would especially like to acknowledge with gratitude our corporate sponsors: Wilton Reinsurance, Servco Oil Inc., Realty Seven, Connecticut Friends School, Connecticut Dermatology Group, Cablevision Channel 12, Dr. Kevin Craw, Dubari Hair Care, ECS Transportation, La Fenice Gelato, Max Dental, Smile Art Orthodontics, South Wilton Veterinary Group, and the Village Market. We would also like to express our appreciation to The Wilton Bulletin for your excellent recent feature article on Wi-ACT and this concert, by Kendra Baker.
