Letter: Tip-a-Cop benefits Special Olympics
To the Editors:
On behalf of the Pertesis family (especially Katerina and Maria), I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Wilton community, the Wilton Police Department and Special Olympics for helping us create a night of fun and fund-raising for a very special organization.
On Oct. 22, Cactus Rose was jam-packed with community members coming to have a great time with Wilton’s finest and give back to Special Olympics. We were honored to have Special Olympic athlete David as well as Special Olympic representative Jay Andronaco, who provided all the materials and T-shirts for the night. A special thank-you to all the fabulous Wilton police staff who gave so generously of their time to entertain the crowd with their serving abilities. They include Officer Shawn Frendt, Sgt. Rob Kluk, Capt. John Lynch, Officer Diane MacLean, and Officer Eva Zimnoch.
In one night, their tips brought in $2,500 for Special Olympics! Families and individuals came out eager to participate and be served by police staff. In addition to tipping their wait staff they gave an additional tip to Special Olympics. In addition, I would like to thank the lovely woman who gave $1,000 as her tip. You know who you are — what a fabulous gift and so appreciated!
Alison Jacobson, the Safety Mom, came out with several of her friends to celebrate her birthday at Cactus Rose once she heard the night was to benefit Special Olympics. Upon hearing about the event, she commented, “How awesome that Cactus Rose is doing this — I just became a loyal patron!” During the holiday season when we are so grateful for living in such a close-knit community and so grateful for all that we have, it is wonderful to be able to give back and help others. We hope that you will take the time to look around and find those community organizations, community members, friends, family, and loved ones who make a positive difference in your lives and thank them through volunteering, spending quality time with them, and giving financially if you are able.
If you would like to donate to Special Olympics through our local police department, please send a check addressed to Special Olympics to the Town of Wilton, Police Department, 238 Danbury Road, Wilton CT 06897, Attention: Officer Diane MacLean.
Happy holidays and stay tuned for future fund-raising events from the Pertesis family as they are committed to finding positive ways to support the loyal community members who support them. Have an idea for a fund-raiser? Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
