Letter: Sponsors made winter race a success

To the Editor:

One thank-you does not seem enough for the generous donations given by various merchants and residents of Wilton to the Michael Gray Memorial Ski and Snowboard Race that took place on March 1.

For the past 14 years, the Michael Gray Race has benefited the Adaptive Sports Foundation (ASF) in Windham, N.Y. ASF is a nonprofit organization that provides profound and life-changing experiences for children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities and chronic illnesses through outdoor physical activity, education, support, and community.

We’d like to give a huge shout-out and thank-you to the Outdoor Sports Center! They graciously outfitted Jose Morales with full ski gear.

Jose — a former professional Uruguayan rugby player and father of three children aged 8, 7, and 3 — was paralyzed last summer in a ladder accident. We hosted the Morales family for our fund-raising weekend and Kevin Gray instructed Jose for his first lesson on a mono-ski.

Thanks to your donations, Jose and his family experienced the amazing effects that ASF can have on an individual and on an entire family.

We would also like to thank News 12 for joining us in Windham. They did an amazing job capturing the race and Jose’s inspirational first experience on a mono-ski. Their story may be seen on the News 12 website.

Thank you to the following businesses that generously donated to our event: Cannondale Generator’s (sponsorship), Lee Horticulture, Little Pub, Luca’s Ristorante, O’Neill’s Irish Pub, Outdoor Sports Center, PTP of Wilton, Signature Style, the Freyer Academy of Ballet, The Schoolhouse at Cannondale, the Village Market, the Walter Schalk School of Dance, and Wilton Jewelers.

We really live in a wonderful community and the Gray family could not be more grateful to all the residents who help make our events so successful! For more information, visit www.remembermichael.com or find us on Facebook.
