Letter: School zone designation enhances safety

To the Editors:

I am writing to commend police Chief Michael Lombardo, state Sen. Toni Boucher and the police commission for listening to officials from the Wilton PTA, the Wilton Family Y and the Wilton Board of Education when we approached them about a public safety concern regarding the speed of vehicles along Route 7.

Chief Lombardo and the police commission proactively devised a solution for the situation and with the support of Sen. Boucher successfully petitioned the State Traffic Commission to designate the area from School Road to just north of our Wilton High School a school zone. During the month of December, new signs and illuminated speed limit signs were installed and became active soon thereafter. Thanks again to our chief, our commission and Sen. Boucher for making this very important public safety enhancement become a reality.
