Letter: P2P thanks Wilton for donations

To the Editors:

During the winter months, we are especially grateful for your donations of food and clothing to Person-to-Person. Hearty meals and warm clothes make all the difference to the people who come to us for assistance.

In December, we provided groceries to 2,400 individuals at our emergency food pantries in Darien and Norwalk and more than 3,400 people visited our Darien Clothing Center. Those numbers increased to more than 3,000 individuals and nearly 4,000 people, respectively, for the month of January.

Our services are made possible by the generosity of so many throughout Lower Fairfield County and by the 250 volunteers who staff our clothing center, emergency food pantry and reception.

To ensure that your donations make their way to the people who need them most, we ask that you leave your donations only when our offices are open in Darien and Norwalk — Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Items left at other times are exposed to the elements and we are often forced to discard these donations.

Also, please do not leave any items that we do not accept, including furniture, sporting equipment, bicycles, strollers, high chairs, etc., because the time required for our volunteers to dispose of these items takes them away from the necessary and important work of assisting the people who come to us for help.

For more information about how you can help — and when — please visit our website at p2phelps.org or call me at 203 655-0048, ext. 152.

On behalf of our clients in Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport, and Wilton, we thank you for your generosity and support.
